New Yarn City Tales - Chapter 9 : A Tear in the Fabric of the Universe

What happened before: After his father’s death, Mortimer Nocturne, the heir to a pest control dynasty and secret moth lover, discovered a hidden moth farm which his father was secretly running in order to artificially increase the demand for moth paper to save the struggling family business. Now, to save the moths and to take good care about his new pets, Mortimer decides to become MegaMoth to roam the city in disguise, stealing out-dated wool from yarn stores.

The Tales of New Yarn City - Chapter 9 : A Tear in the Fabric of the Universe

In a parallel universe where everything is sewn and nothing is crocheted, a mysterious masked person breaks into the headquarter of the biggest French haute couture fashion company. A silver moonbeam reveals the remarkable silhouette of the world’s most infamous fashionista – Chloé O’Needle, owner of the popular fashion trend blog bzzz.mosquita.net. Right now, she’s up to steal the secret designs of the upcoming season’s it-pieces to be the first to wear the new trend and write about on her blog. What an evil plan!

In a fly Chloé bypasses every security device while cheerfully humming a very annoying pop song. And at last, there it is – the secret fashion lab! The masked mischief slips through a last tightly woven laser net and is just about to stick her nose in the top secret design pattern safe ... when suddenly the fabric of the universe tears apart like a pair of too tight pants when one bends over. And before she even recognize, the nosy thief falls into the unknown ...

At the same time, Mortimer Nocturne was sitting in the cellar of his family mansion desperately pondering how he should continue to feed his hungry pet moths. They had already eaten almost all the stolen balls of yarn and there was hardly any unsaleable ugly yarn left in the whole town that he could steal with a clear conscience.

A new plan was needed, but nothing useful crossed his tired mind. Wait, NOTHING? That's it! According to the string theory, EVERYTHING is made of STRINGS, so is yarn! So why not use strings to MAKE yarn?

Without further ado, Mortimer built a genius machine that sucked in virtual particles from the vacuum of the universe, ribbed them into strings and spun yarn out of it. And already after the first test run, he held a wonderfully shiny light weight ball of yarn in his hands. What a success!

Mortimer yawned. Countless nights of stealing wool for his moths had exhausted him deeply. Now, satisfied with himself, he lay down to finally get some well deserved sleep. But just in the moment when restful sleep took over an annoying buzzing mosquito sound was getting louder and closer. It stopped next to his ear and Mortimer woke up rudely.
