Free Crochet Pattern Addition

Lalylala Rabbit Rita

When I fell into that rabbit hole the other day, I came back with another freebie especially for all of you, who already own one of the lalylala doll patterns!

Let's follow the white rabbit again and crochet yourself this lovely bunny named RITA! All you need is one of the lalylala doll patterns for the body (like BINA, KIRA, DIRK or any other hooded lalylala doll who's coming with legs ;) and the following ears and tail instructions.

Rita's Story

Rita is the granddaughter of the March Hare and niece of the White Rabbit, which erstwhile Alice followed to Wonderland. You know - Wonderland is located right next to Lalylaland - so you can not miss! Even when Rita was a little bunny she was a regular guest at the Mad Hatter’s un-birthday parties. That’s where she found her favorite teacup decorated with a fine English tea rose. With a bit of cross-stitch wizardry such a rose adorns RITAs little belly now.

Abbreviations (US terms)

ch = chain stitch
dec = decrease (sc together the next 2 sts)
inc = increase (2 sc into the same stitch)
sc = single crochet stitch
slst = slip stitch
st(s) = stitch(es)
rnd(s) = round(s)
°...+...° = work all the sts between ° and ° into the same stitch
[...] ... x = repeat instructions in brackets ... times
(...) = total number of sts worked in specific rnd or row

Yarn and Hook Size

To make Rita you need to own one of the lalylala dolls patterns to follow for the basic doll body. (e.g. Bear Bina, Kangaroo Kira, Dragon Dirk, or any other hooded lalylala doll that has legs)

  • a crochet hook matching your yarn
  • approx. 20g more of the main color yarn you've used for the body (my Rita is made from 2 balls of Schachenmayr Catania 105)
  • a little bit of soft stuffing or yarn rests to stuff the tail
  • stranded embroidery floss, e.g. Anchor, colors: 48, 55, 57, 65, 255, 264, 268
  • tapestry needle

Design Tip:

Do you want your bunny to look punky? Try to make striped ears! Use another color and add 3 or more stripes as you go.

Bi-Ba-Bunny Tail

The bunny tail is a simple sphere. Make a magic loop from your main color yarn and work in a continous spiral again.

01. sc 6 into the loop (6)

02. [inc] 6x (12)

03. [sc 1, inc] 6x (18)

04. sc 1, inc, [sc 2, inc] 5x, sc 1 (24)

05. [sc 3, inc] 6x (30)

06.-08. (3 rnds) sc 30

09. [dec, sc 3] 6x (24)

10. sc 1, dec, [sc 2, dec] 5x, sc 1 (18)

11. [dec, sc 1] 6x (12)

12. [dec] 6x (6)

Cut the yarn with a long rest to sew the tail onto then body. Close the remaining sts through front loops.

Cross Stitch Rose

Follow the cross stitch chart to embroider the rose onto Rits's belly.

Since you've crocheted several increases and decreases to shape the body, you have to pass some spots where the cross-stitches can't be made exactly one above the other and you have to improvise a bit.
