Jellyfish Mobile
Crochet Hook 3,5 mm (US E)
Worsted Weight Yarn - Size 3 (100g for 3 jellyfishes)
e.g. Scheepjes Cahlista, Yarn and Colors Epic, Schachenmeyr Catania Grande
35 Beads with a hole big enough to thread the yarn
The size of the jellyfish depends on the yarn and hook size you choose. Worked from the recommended yarn size and hook the cap turns out a diameter of 7 cm (3 inch) and a total lenght of approx. 20 cm (8 inch) .
ch = chain stitch
dec = decrease (sc together 2 sts)
inc = increase (2 sc into the same st)
rnd(s) = round(s)
sc = single crochet
slst = slip stitch
st(s) = stitch(es)
[...] ...x = repeat instructions written in brackets as a sequence as often as given after the closing bracket
(...) = number of sts made in the current rnd or row
Body
Leave a long yarn tail for hanging the jellyfish and make a magic loop. Crochet in a continuous spiral.
01: sc 6 into the magic loop (6)
02: [inc] 6x (12)
03: [sc 1, inc] 6x (18)
04: [sc 2, inc] 6x (24)
05: [sc 3, inc] 6x (30)
06: [sc 4, inc] 6x (36)
07: [sc 5, inc] 6x (42)
08.-11.: (4 rnds) sc 42
12: [dec, sc 5] 6x (36)
13: slst 36
Cut the yarn and weave in the end.
Beaded Threads
For your jellyfish you need 3 beaded crochet chains in total. One chain with 15 beads and two chains holding 10 beads. Thread the required number of beads onto the yarn before starting crochet.
10 beads chain:
[ch 1 with a bead, ch 2 without a bead] 10x, ch 8, cut the yarn
15 beads chain:
[ch 1 with a bead, ch 1 without a bead] 15x, ch 12, cut the yarn
Tentacles
Due to the increases worked along one side of a chain the tentacle will twist as you go. Make 2 tentacles in different sizes:
1st tentacle
Make a foundation chain of 32 ch. Crochet along the chain, starting in the 2nd stitch from hook, [inc] 15x. Next, repeat the following sequence until the end of the chain: [sc 1, inc].
2nd tentacle
Make a foundation chain of 36 ch. Follow the instructions as given for the first tentacle.
Assembling
Inside the body, sew the beaded chains and the tentacles in the middle of the cap. Draw the remaining thread from the beginning through the tip of jellyfish's cap towards outside.
Tie the jellyfish on a piece of driftwood, a mobile or a lamp. If you want the jellyfish to float, use a clear nylon thread like fishing line to hang.
